a new mac and no music

hello. i’ve been a member of this site for about one year and i’ve never had any trouble downloading music. however, i recently got a mac and now whenever i attempt to download music an icon that looks like a blank piece of white paper appears on my desktop, but nothing else. (in the past a folder appeared on my desktop with each mp3 song in the folder.)
i’m sure i’m making an obvious mistake in my current download attempts, but if anyone could point me in the right direction i’d be extremely grateful.

you got any software that is able to extract rar files? most music here comes rared

use unrarx its good for unraring on macs
