[Solved] Computer Problem….Help!

January 26th, 2020

Hi, I built a computer myself, everything works except nothing from the back ports work, the screen doesnt work…stays standby, usbs dont work either!
Please help with this.
Motherboard = ASUS P6t Deluxe V2
CPU= Intel Core i7 920
GFX= XFX Radeon 4870
CPU Cooler= Scythe Mugen 2
PSU= Cooler Master 600watt Silent Pro
EDIT: I have connected all power to GFX, 2 PSU Powers to Mobo, etc….all CD ROM etc work, fans work lights work…but the back ports dont (the ones stuck on mobo)

Answer #1
usb can be due to driver issue or disabled on the mobo.. (check jumpers if any)
For the screen check what port you used.. check cabling even on the screen itself.. (sounds silly but it happens even with the best..)
Did the screen work for windows installation? or did it never work?
Answer #2
let me explain, this computer i built myself form scratch today, there is no windows on it. I put it together and turned it on, but nothing showed for screen and usbs (i did check screen stuff, since it was working 30min ago on my old pc
Answer #3
Check what pci-e slot you placed the grafics card. some mobo’s want 1 graphics card on slot 1 others don’t… (lets start with the screen first and work our way down ok? )
ps. what RAM are you using? Some OCZ ram is not validated by ASUS (OCZ3P1600LV6GK)
Answer #4
hmm i tried other pci-e ports but same result :S

these images linked are my pc, see if anythings wrong, please
Answer #5
make sure the graphics card is in the top pci express slot
make sure your psu is powerfull enough for the graphics card
make sure the cable is plugged from the monitor into the graphics card, not the mobo
if still dosent work
try booting with only 1 stick of ram
try moving the stick to a different slot
also make sure the cpu is seated properly
and the graphics card is properly pushed in
also make sure you have standoffs installed/or make sure they were built into your case
if still nothing ask on a pc forum like ocforums
Answer #6
hmm check the images are the ram placed incorrectly?
i put one of each one, should they be next to each other?
Answer #7
jep ram is incorrect..
Place them in the red slots (i checked the manual :p )
ps. please place the cpu fan at the top of the heatsink in pull configuration
Answer #8
ahh ok will do thx…i will reply back soon :p
SOLVED!!!! THANKS ALOT!!! BIG HUGS ALL ROUND (Caps Meant )
Answer #9
hehe no problem mate.. so you’ll know to always open manuals now?
I’m on IT professional and know that every mobo has his special thing.. thats why I also always look into the manual of a mobo before starting a build..
Have fun with the overclock? :p
Answer #10
Manuals are too big lol :p One thing though…I built it and its working but I am wondering is the case ment to make some kind of dust/burning like smell at the start? I looked at Core temps and they were around 35degrees so its not burning….but just wondering if this is normal
Answer #11
some can yes, as the paint and everything in it heats up at first it can let off a weird smell. but it could also be something else burning… keep an eye on it
Answer #12
is there a program I can use to test it?
Answer #13
off the top of my head i would just say stick with what you have. monitor the cpu, HDD, and GPU temps. if they seem to be getting rather high something might be wrong. and be wary of the smell of burning plastic.
Answer #14
Don’t you love the smell of new hardware heating up?
Answer #15
lol it always scares the ~love~ outa me
Answer #16
but is it normal? nothing wrong with this happening?
Answer #17
If all temps are ok then you should be fine. New hardware has a smell when running.. its like a plastic smell but not 100% that.. It is totaly normal.
If it is a burning rubber or burning plastic smell then i would start to check what is wrong..
Answer #18
well its smell has lowered….so i guess it just the newness
