Quicktime .mov PAL or NTSC how to check version

August 5th, 2016

Hi, i know Google is my friends but i have searched for the answer to this and im just so confused with getting so many different answers, i hope someone on here can help
I have some different .mov video files for video editing stuff…all i need to know is how can i check the version of the video file either PAL or NTSC?
I know i can go into the movie inspector in QT Pro and check the frame rate – and i know 29.97 is NTSC and 25FPS is PAL – However i also get 30 FPS and 60 FPS in some movies which i thought the 30FPS would be NTSC but i can import it into a PAL video editor? Now that is confusing…
So i opened up Livetype and set the preferences to PAL 3:4 – and guess what? i can import all the mov files even the NTSC 29.97 FPS with PAL .movs too…
Thats confusing as i thought a video editor application could only import PAL videos if it was set to PAL and only NTSC videos if it was set to NTSC
Can some one help me find out what version my .mov files are please?
Many many thanks

That’s because the PAL & NTSC doesn’t exist for file types like avi or mov. PAL or NTSC can be the source, but this does not apply to the mov or avi file, so you can just use every program to edit them with.

yea they are like the cores so they dont matter sometimes ppl choose different ones because its faster to encode or eaiser to watch but it reall doesnt matter
