Wire Grounding
August 8th, 2016
The only issue is that I had practically no wire left so had to mess around with it.
I’m wondering if the ground was soldered properly. I do have excellent stereo reception but is there any way to check the ground?
And is it really that important to ground a minor device like a headset? Thank you
You shouldn’t hear humming, buzzing or any kind of static interference if you have grounded it properly. Yes grounding is necessary for headphones.
it will be fine if the headphones are working.
The wires on headphones can be terrible to solder if they break off because of the way some wires are coated to make them small. It makes soldering quite difficult and it can mean that the left and right headphones become identical. So they may sound like they are working but they might not be working correctly. So check that the left and right is working correctly. Connect them to the PC and play sounds through only the left and right to check them.

There was a clear difference between the wires. The only problem is that the wires broke off and I’m left with 1/10 of a thumb which makes it almost impossible to solder back on again. And they are coated indeed (cut up half the length of the wire before I realized that :/).
The biggest issue with it, if I can solder it again (it works without humming or anything with clear stereo sound) is that those wires can’t take any amount of force or they snap.
