Hate to be a bringer of bad news, but i’ve had 2 western digital external drives, and after only minor bumps, i started hearing a shaking noise and neither have worked since. One solution i found, i know it sounds stupid was give it a little shake/bump (classic IT help) before plugging it in. If you get it working, just make sure you take everything back onto your computer in case it doesn’t work again. Sorry i can’t help!

you can try recovery software like “Nucleus Kernel” or getdataback in apps section
dropping it probably caused physical damage and all (if any) may not be recoverable
Answer #3
You dropped the drive 20 inches. The drive is probably toast, certainly it will be unreliable.
However you want the data. At least the drive is being recognized though it’s not being seen as formatted. You’ll need a program that can recover data (there are many on the APPS forum) try running one of them and that might help you. There is a distinct possibility however that the data is gone. You may be able to use a professional service though that will cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Answer #4
there we are, some proper advice! might try that myself.
Answer #5
Does the drive show up in disk management?
You could have just damaged the USB connection to the drive.
Take it apart and try hooking it up to your computer as a slave.
Answer #6
or try the freezer trick
put it into the freezer for a few hours or overnight, put it in a plastic bag to keep moisture from freezing on it
take it out and fire it up and be ready to copy your stuff when you do, it may only work for a short period of time
recovered a dropped laptop drive this way and it still works months later
my theory: the head pivot arm got jammed and freezing it “shrunk” the metal to allow it to move again
and I’ve had some that needed more than one “freezing” to get all the data off of it
I’m 4 out of 6 with this method over the last 3 years
Answer #7
+1 for Nucleus Kernel !!
Answer #8
