I’m unfamiliar with that laptop but my gut tells me if you don’t know how to do something as basic as installing an Operating System that it may not be such a good idea to rush into anything. Furthermore, if you don’t have a reinstallation disk to restore your laptop to the exact condition it was in when you bought it then I would recommend creating an image and burning it to disk for safe keeping.
Good Luck

As per what said above. If you didn’t get a restore disc with you laptop, there’s usually an option that appears when you first use it to make a restore/recovery disc.
Go to the Toshiba web site and see if XP drivers are available for your model (network, graphics etc) before doing anything. Unfortunately, a lot of members here have formatted their (Vista) laptops and installed XP only to find that no drivers exist, and most likely, never will.
