Looking for a good MKV to AVI convert for Mac

Can anyone recommend any software (preferably freeware) that will convert MKV files to AVI for MAC? I’ve already tried the latest version of HandBrake which supposedly can perform that task but it won’t.

Use the new HandBrake 0.9.5

It now converts anything, just like visual hub, and its free.
