Garmin map renaming problem

August 4th, 2016

Can someone please tell me how to rename 2 maps saved in my SD card for the Garmin gps. I needed the maps of North America and Europe on my SD card however, they both have the same file name. I needed to see both of the maps simultaneously in the gps. One member here mentioned that I should rename the other file to “GMAPSUP2.IMG” but it’s not showing in the gps. It only shows the map with the original file name of “GMAPSUPP.IMG”.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer #1
use gmpatool and join them
Answer #2
where do I get the gmpatool? I tried to search it here but to no avail. Does this combine the 2 maps and would show as 1 map in the map info of the gps? Thanks mp3hot for the quick help.
Answer #3
I always do it with the Mapsource versions, just select maps in mapsource and transfer to device.
Answer #4
I am not sure if it is possible to use Mapsource for different maps say like North America and Europe. I have not tried it though. And since I have 2 gps units, do I have to generate a separate code every time I transfer the maps to a different gps unit?
Answer #5
I have worked with one device, but with an SD card inside, and the ID number is different for the SD card. But I am not really sure about the codes with two separate devices, if you need to change them every time.
Otherwise it’s possible to select multiple maps. I have done it, I had a topo map for Finland, one for Sweden, and then I had a Polish road map, and I just selected them all and the program remembers the selection, and then you can send them all.
Answer #6
Thanks for the super quick response . Another clarification though, if I install the North America maps and Europe maps in my computer and using the same mapsource file, do I need to generate a separate unlock code for each map (i.e. NA and Europe) in order for me to send a combined single gmapsupp file in the gps?
Answer #7
Maps need to be unlocked separetely, with the Jetmouse keygen. If you can see them in full detail in Mapsource, you can transfer to a device.
Answer #8
ye i meant gmaptool …. mapsource is better .. use that
Answer #9
Thanks for the great help and mp3hot. I really appreciate. I will work on the mapsource and I will post should there be any issues coming.

You can install 4 maps including Basemap,
1st is BASEMAP 2ns is GMAPSUPP.IMG, you have to rename 3rd & 4th maps as follows:
3rd is GMAPSUP2.IMG & 4th is GMAPPROM.IMG. (.UNL file should be same as the map name)
