Is there a way i can back up my files ?

You could buy an external hard drive, but using a system restore shoudn’t change any of your documents or things of that sort.
you mean just files not the installed program? because your files will not be affected by a system restore, just the installed program after a certain restore point.

so when i system resotre my comp to try and remove the virus
actually if you get a virus, it most likely will infect restore points so if you restore to an earlier time, you will also bring back the virus. Best is to either copy/paste your stuff first or make a restorable Norton Ghost image
System Restore points should be disabled when you get a virus so you can clean your PC thats a must. To back up your stuff only backup important things, try avoiding exe files specially cracks for they are prone to get infected right away. Follow my virus removal tutorial most likely you can fix it with my tutorial. As long as you can boot and see Windows you can fix it and no need for reformat. But still back up important stuff to cds and then get an antivirus and some freeware to clean it up. It still surprises me when people ask about how to fix computer and they havent even used a antivirus.
