[Fixed!]Cant install Xp SP2?

I tried to install SP2 but is says untfs.dll is in use already.
Did disk check. and i did a scan to fix reg issues….
Tried multiple times. Old laptop, tats wy im on SP1

Make sure that it is SP2 that you are trying to in stall and not SP1!
The error you are getting – relates to you trying to install a service pack of the same type.

im doin it direct from windows update. So it is not te case im afraid

Why don’t you just try SP3? 2 is outdated.

i tried sp3 too. And i got a message that said i need sp1 installed? wtf?

I’d say you got 2 options:
1. Get an XP SP3 copy and do a clean install,Format the C partition,Backup your
data first to a secondary partition or external HDD
2. Get an XP SP3 copy and do a repair install (all data will remain intact)
It’s up to you but if you ask me option #1 would be best.

see, id of formatted already if i had those options. but I have no burner, and no dvd’s. and no money to get either,

How bout a flash drive? It’ll do just fine,Download an XP SP3 copy,Mount
it using Daemon Tools and follow this guide:

unfortuneatly i dont even have a flashdrive, and I have not tried it from safemode. But ie never really had the option to go to safemode. What is the shortcut on startup again?

drives are cheap and I’m sure you could afford one.

I did the msconfig way for safemode. Anyways. Im happy to say, that while installing in safemode, I managed to install SP2 and SP3. Thank you guys very much for your help!

I haven’t read all the posts here but are you booting from the CD or trying to install within windows?

Within windows mate. But its all fixed now
