Need help on Math

I don’t get this crap….
Can someone give me step by step orders on how to do these questions?
1. 5x + 1 = 4x + 7
2. 2x = -30 + 5x
3. 7y = 20 + 3y
4. 6y + 2 = 7y – 4

If I remember correctly, and dont rely on me as a good source
But I believe you have to allign the variables
I.e
5x + 1 = 4x + 7
You will need to get bot the “X” variables on the same side as the = symbol.
The catch, when what ever you move gets inverted.
Try to follow.
5x + 1 = 4x + 7
5x – 4x = +7 -1
therefor,
1x = 6
or x = 6
Again, I’m not 100% positive, it has been a LONG time for me, but this seems ok to me.
I can’t explain with words so I’ll do all my work on here see if you can get it….
1. 5x + 1 = 4x + 7
5x – 4x = 7 – 1
x = 6
2. 2x = -30 + 5x
2x – 5x = -30
-3x = -30
3x = 30
— = —
3___3
x = 10
3. 7y = 20 + 3y
7y – 3y = 20
4y = 20
4. 6y + 2 = 7y – 4
2 + 4 = 7y – 6y
6 = y
If you still don’t get it I’ll try to explain with words..
PS: Please ignore the “____” between the 3’s….I couldn’t use that many spaces so i had to put it there.
Looks like I was correct …
Question 1
5x + 1 = 4x + 7
Bring all variables to one side, remember when switching sides change the sign
5x-4x=7-1
x=6
The rest of the questions involve the same principle, do you need help with the others?
ok #1 subtract 4x from both sides to give you x + 1 = 7
subtract 1 from both sides to give you x = 6
#2
subtract 5x from both sides to get -3x = -30 divide both sides by -3 to get x = 10
#3 subtract 3y from both sides to give you 4y = 20
divide both sides by four to give you y = 5
#4
subtract 6y from both sides to give you 2 = y – 4
add four to both sides to give you 6 = y, thus y = 6

i hope i explained them in a simple enough form
Looks like I was correct ...
Yeah you were, I remember how to do it but I couldn’t explain in words.
mines correct too
I can't explain with words so I'll do all my work on here see if you can get it....
1. 5x + 1 = 4x + 7
5x - 4x = 7 - 1
x = 6
2. 2x = -30 + 5x
2x - 5x = -30
-3x = -30
3x = 30
--- = ---
3___3
x = 10
3. 7y = 20 + 3y
7y - 3y = 20
4y = 20
4. 6y + 2 = 7y - 4
2 + 4 = 7y - 6y
6 = y
If you still don't get it I'll try to explain with words..
PS: Please ignore the "____" between the 3's....I couldn't use that many spaces so i had to put it there.
How did 3x and 30 become positive? And how did you get 10 for the answer??
when you divide or multiply a negative times a negative you automatically get a positive.
when you divide or multiply a negative times a negative you automatically get a positive.
Yea, but isn’t 3 divided by 3 = 1? I know 30 divided by 3 is 10… because you divide -3 by both sides..
2. 2x = -30 + 5x
2x – 5x = -30
-3x = -30
If you divide -30 by -3, the two negatives cancle each other out, and it becomes 30 divided by 3.
x=10.

k thanks, how about this one 3a = 10.1 + 9.9 -2n
yea per say, you have 5x and divide it by 5 you are left with one as you stated. but 1 times x = 1 as anything multiplied by one stays the same ~
3a = 10.1 + 9.9 -2n
Thats impossible to solve. You cant solve 2 variables with one equation.
3a = 10.1 + 9.9 – 2n
opps, i fixed it now.
3a = 10.1 + 9.9 - 2n
opps, i fixed it now.
You didnt change anything, still impossible lol.
you could say that 3a + 2n = 20, but thats about it.
3a = 10.1 + 9.9 - 2n
opps, i fixed it now.

Yup, unless it has two equations with the same variables, then you can solve it
*eg, 3a = 10.1 + 9.9 – 2n, AND 6a = 20+1-5a*
Then you could solve that equation for both variables

why arent you asking your teacher with help on your homework, asking your parents, or getting a tutor?
They should be teaching you these basics in math
Jill
Some students find math to be a fery tricky subject. Its not likely that his entire homework consisted of just 4 – 5 questions.
Everyone likes getting help form other sources, my teacher always used to tell me “Ask 3 before me” so, it makes sence, he was just lookinf for some explainations.
If he came here with a scan of say 20 question, then he would definetly just be getting his homework done.
3a = 10.1 + 9.9 - 2n

not quite, you can evaluate “a” and “n” in terms of each other.
a = (20-2n)/3
and
n = (20-3a)/2

my teacher says the same thing!
and at , that method works, i totally forgot about it, but still im thinking the teacher doesnt want fractions or decimals, since the past problems have been natural numbers.
my first semester of calculus in college i got a B. i learned my lesson. Second semester i was in talking to my teacher all the time to understand the problems for homework and i got an A.
So thinking he needs to do the same

1. 5x + 1 = 4x + 7 solution:
5x-4x=-1+7
x=+6
2. 2x = -30 + 5x solution:
2x-5x=-30
-3x=-30
x=10
3. 7y = 20 + 3y solution:
7y-3y=20
4y=20
y=5
4. 6y + 2 = 7y – 4
solution:
6y-7y=-2-4
-y=-6
y=6
btw these are basics of algebra and they are pretty easy to solve y need help mate?
i’m in grade nine too!
but i learned this stuff in grade eight
