Converting PSP to GEN from M33.

I got a new PSP and it had 5.00 M33-6 on it, and I was wondering if there is a way to switch to GEN.
On my other PSP I had 5.5 GEN-B, and my friend told me there’s a newer version out, so I want to try changing over.

Should I run 5.5 GEN-A first?
Or can I run GEN-D without bothering with the rest?

I think the very latest update may be an incremental one, not 100% sure.
