Subtitles are now weird signs ?

July 31st, 2016

Got a movie (Osmosis Jones) i downloaded a long time ago (years), and the subs (.smi) for it. I saw the movie once back then, and i remember it to play the subs without problems.
Now, the subs are just weird signs (no letters), i have tried to open it using notepad, and it’s the same.
What’s wrong ? Is the file corrupt ?
I hope someone can help me.

Answer #1
try changing the extension to srt
Answer #2
I’ve tried to change them to .srt and .sub. It makes no different.
Answer #3
Are they Non-English subtitles? If that the case then refer to the following url:

Answer #4
Yes they are non-english, they should be danish, and we use the same letters, so i don’t think that is the problem. But i’ll try it. Thanks for your suggestion.
Answer #5

maybe there were two subtitles, danish and chinese, and you accidently removed the good one

i only saw two subs in 1 files if the extension was .sub/.idx
Answer #14
1. Use Bsplayer or so
2. Download the subs, must be only a few kilobytes

danish subtitles aren’t available seperate on subtitle sites, only the english ones
Answer #16
Do you have danish language installed on you PC? if so try this.
It worked for me when I was trying to get Thai subtitles to work on my laptop with normal windows language still in English
Open up subtitle file in Firefox, it still displays odd characters. From view menu select Character Encoding, then selected the correct encoding for your language. Then the subtitles display in the correct foreign characters in Firefox. Copy and paste it all from Firefox into notepad, then save over the top of the original file, making sure to select UTF-8 encoding. (and make sure to save the file as a subtitle file, not a tx file!) If any ones else is having trouble with other languages, this could also be a solution to your problem. Just select you appropriate encoding in Firefox.
