Answer #1
This might be your problem – it’s not tinyxp, cos that’s what I’m using, for ages now.. Sounds like either a bad cd or a bad read.
“You are prompted for the ‘Asms’ file when installing Windows XP? 04-Jan-02
When you try to install Windows XP, you receive:
[Files Needed] The file ‘Asms’ on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386
Setup is having problems communicating with your CD-ROM>
To fix the problem:
01. When you receive the error, start a CMD session by pressing SHIFT+F10.
02. Type regedit.exe and press Enter.
03. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
04. On the File menu, press Load Hive.
05. Load %Windir%\System32\Config\System.sav.
06. Enter AAA when prompted for a name.
07. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\AAA\ControlSetn\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, where ControlSetn is the lowest control set.
08. Delete both UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS.
09. Repeat step 07 and 08 for every control set.
10. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and Unload Hive from the File menu.
11. Close the CMD prompt and allow setup to try to read the ‘Asms’ file.”

I tried that wen I load the hive I don’t get wat it says on step 5. all I get is a desktop folder that has nothing in it. Any way I can fix this so I can restart the format? and is it possible for u 2 refer me to a good copy of tiny xp?
Answer #3
that’s not tinyXP, it’s ” Windows XP SP3 Performance Edition”, so not getting TinyXP is your 1st problem
have installed flawlessly with a disk then in some CD/DVD drives I get a similar error
this is how I solved it
2 things
1. burn the disk at the lowest speed possible
2. burn 2 copies
when you get the error swap the disks and hit try again
have had to do 2-3-4 swaps with some drives

hey I’ve been reading alot of ur post on tiny xp and micro. I would appreciate ur input on the 2 programs. I’m running an older comp. it only has 256 in it and I’m just looking to get it running for my lil kids. I thought that tiny xp would be the way to go but, after reading wat u’ve said in other post about microxp I’m starting to think it might work better on the older machine. Could u give me some advice and a link to a good download of either of them. TY
Answer #5
for what you need microXP sounds like a good place to start
just be sure you have XP drivers for your video & audio
this on looks good it’s a single file download, so pick a mirror http://www.google.com?t=1381437&highlight=
