I need to change my IP because of obvious internet related reasons. Notes:
I have a dynamic IP
I have a NetGear Router model # MR814 V3
What I do:
1. Restart my modem
2. Restart my router
3. Check if internet works
— If I restart my modem and then plug it into my computer DIRECTLY I have a new IP and everything works perfectly
— If I connect the modem to my router and my router to my computer I encounter 1 of 3 problems
1.
The router does not recieve the new IP information shown here
http://~ Disallowed image host ~/osb9ep.png
2.
The router recieves the new IP info but fails to establish a connection to the internet. If I keep refreshing the router page it shows a page full of zeros like shown above.
3.
If I restart everything again it sometimes goes back to the old settings that worked. For example if my IP was 7.5.4.12 before I restarted everything it will go back to that IP after I restart everything.
In conclusion I need to get a new IP and I need my router to recieve the new IP information and work with it. I do not understand why my router will not work with the new IPs my modem is giving it. …
Thanks in advance
turn your router off for 10sec than turn it back on and you will get a new ip
Tried it and it doesnt work ….
The screenshot you posted is where you enter in a static IP address. Those fields do not matter when the router has a dynamic IP address assigned. Go to the page that looks like this:
It should be accessible via this URL:
http://192.168.0.1/RST_status.htm
Substitute 192.168.0.1 for your router’s internal IP address. It should also be listed as the gateway address on your PC.
If it still says the same IP address, then click the “Connection Status” button.
That should bring up this page:
Click on the “Renew” button to renew your router’s IP address.
Well the thing is on that page that you posted when I click conneciton status it is all 0s as well
If I click release / renew nothing happens
I know it doesnt matter on that page but if my router recieves the information such as IP Subnet Mask etc it still shows up there even if it is dynamic
as poster has a separate modem pluged it to router would that not remain connected even during router reset and thus retain the existing ip ?
if so only switching of the modem would change dynamic ip
^^ No because Ive done it before it just worked the first time though and now its giving me all of these problems.
The only difference I can think of is when I did it I had the router off for about 3 days or 4 at a time. Is this why? Because the leave on the IP expired?
