phpBB or SMF ?

Hi,
I’m trying to implement a forum for my school.
I was wondering which forum software is the best? phpBB or SMF? or any other?
I like the way smf looks but i heard phpbb is more “modable” and safe from hack attacks. Which one should i choose?

i suggest phpBB cause i’m using it for 2 years now, and i have to say it is great and u can do a lot of things with it that u can’t do with SMF.

phpBB3 is surely better, easy to use, free, awesome look, free themes, 100% support in their board etc.

Well SMF is more secure as its updated more regularly, phpbb is not my flavour. ive been using smf for 2 years and love it..

Same I woudl pick SMF I use it and I much rather it than phpbb as said its safer which is allways a plus.

smf is much better than phpbb. There are a wide variety of themes and mods that can all be EASILY implemented without having to mess with any files, it’s as simple as clicking a couple of buttons and that’s it. SMF is also updated regularly, and there are many enthusiasts there ready to give you support for free at any given time. Their team is friendly and always willing to help. The software itself is clean fast and efficient, more secure too. I’ve been using smf for 3 years+ now and I have to say it is the best forum software out there (much better than vBulletin too =P)
also, not trying to start an argument or anything but DuG mentions a bunch of things phpbb has….he also makes it sound like smf does not offer these things. Well it does. Oh and btw…phpbb’s support forums got hacked…destroyed really…proof smf is more secure =P not to mention smf is much easier to use. The only times smf’s support forums have gone down is when they had some server issues/malfunctions, and let’s face it, that happens to everyone, even the goldy =P however, they have yet to have been hacked by anyone.
