Rar files downloaded as Window Media Centre files

August 7th, 2013

I have a new computer which downloads .rar files (example) and changes them all to Windows Media centre files which I cannot open.
Can I not use this site anymore because of my new computer?
Thanks for any help.

Answer #1
What is the files extension? Are you sure they are media center files? Maybe it’s just that media center is assigned to open .rar files?
Answer #2
I’m not sure but this is what I find once its downloaded, in front of the name there is an icon with a screen and a note over it.
I used to get a zipped icon with my old computer.

Install winrar. That should automatically associate rar files to open with it.
If you still get the issue, then right click one of the files > open with > choose program > select winrar > check “always use the selected program” > OK

And always set Windows Explorer to…
1. SHOW Hidden Files and Folders
2. Do NOT hide extension of known file types..
Once you know what extensions you have, it be a lot easier to associate them.
And as shown above, associate rar files with Winrar…
