back up my hard drive

August 7th, 2016

good day mates, i got some questions around here about
backing up a hard drive.. let me start..
i got 2 drives now, 500GB [75GB as OS and 390GB as new volume]
then i got my old drive 250GB[200GB downloads/installers and 30GB personalfiles]
here is my question.. i want to back up my 250GB
to my 390GB partition.. if i use acronis back up, will the back up be
an image file? or not? or any recommendations?
should i use old style copy paste? any help around?
thanks in advance

Answer #1
If I was doing that I’d open up the side of the case (after switching off the electricity), balance the old HD in a convenient place, connect a power cable from the PSU, connect a data cable then reboot the computer. You should then see three drives and I’d just copy and paste the files over. When finished just remove the old HD and away you go.

^ dude i got 2 drives only.. im asking if using the backup software acronis true image does the back up output would be an image file?
Answer #3
You can do both..When you run Acronis you will get several options..
You can chose the drive to drive option..That will clone the drive to the other drive..
Or you can create an image of the drive..The image cannot be stored in the same partition you are backing up…

You taking the piss or what …. ‘i got two drives now, then i got my old drive’ = 3 bloody drives. Off course it could mean you don’t know the difference between a drive and a partition! Be a bit more clear next time!
Answer #5
i think i did not clear somethings.. but i got 2 drives a 500GB and a 250GB
the 500GB was partitioned into [75GB and 390GB]
then the old drive was partitioned into [200GB and 30GB]
for the cloning option, i can’t do it because i just clone my OS to the 500GB
i see so i can create an image file of the drive using acronis..
does this back up image file mountable on magic iso or any app?
Answer #6
you could try clonezilla i had to use it to update the firmware on my ssd that helped with freezing
it might look scary at first but if you find a youtube video it is quite easy
also it compresses your data
Answer #7
I wouldn’t use Acronis, it’s unreliable plus it installs a whole bunch of crap on Windows that’s impossible to remove no matter if you uninstall it. Use Macrium Reflect instead. Backup an OS drive via it’s imaging module. Backup data using it’s file & folder backup module. Been using Macrium for about 2 years and it never failed me yet.
Answer #8
Try EASEUS TodoBackup Advanced Server (version 58). I’ve been using that on my PC for yonks and it’s errr, ‘served’ me well. Version 6 is out but I haven’t found a crack for that yet.
Answer #9
You could just do file transfer, using Syncback. Or use EaseUs TODO Backup to put them in a “container”.
Answer #10
oh thanks for some advice out there.. i’ll check on them
does Macrium create an image file of the back up disk? same as the EaseUs?
or anything that they will be compress? hmmm
Answer #11
You can choose your compression type with EASEUS TodoBackup (None, normal, medium, high) with the time taken being longer for each. I do an OS partition backup (normal) usually after every Windows update and for me that takes around 20 minutes to complete. I save the image on a different HD and just put it in a folder called xx_backup. I’ve had to reinstall due to problems a couple of times and I just use the Easeus backup CD (you create it from within the software) and away I go, no problem.
