Asus Battery Stuck at 52% – HWMonitor says 5% Wear level!

April 20th, 2019

On an Asus K50IJ laptop, the battery is indeed 3 years old. It worked perfectly and lasted at least 1 hour on normal use but suddenly one day it just can’t hold the power not even for 1 second.
I tried a lot of stuff online:
-Freezing the charger to release some safety pin that might be stuck
-Removing battery, charger and all other and pressing the Power Button for 30seconds.
-Uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and rebooting both with Battery in and removed…
Anyway, nothing worked from the above. Battery still doesn’t hold the laptop at all but says “Plugged in, charging” but stuck at 52%.
I understand it’s probably dead, after 3 years, but I want to make sure that’s the case and not a faulty charger as HWMonitor had these indications:

Designed Capacity: 47300mWh
Full Charge Capacity: 45166mWh
Current Capacity: 23309mWh
Wear Level: 5%
Charge Level 51%

That is what’s confusing me. Is HWMonitor inaccurate or is my charger faulty but my battery is working fine?
Thanks for the help.

i have the same problem, my battery is stuck to 79% and i was told
by a technician that its wearing out, but its only and a half years old,
so someone might be able to find another solution for both of us,

Does yours hold the laptop without the AC adapter though?
I mean mine is 3 years old, but it worked perfectly after suddenly not being able to hold charge.
The weirdest thing is the HWMonitor reports… If it’s trustworthy then according to the indications my battery has 23309mWh charge so it should turn off when I unplug AC. That could mean that even if I bought a new battery, the same thing might happen…

3 year old battery? You’re lucky that it lasted that long. Probably time to get a new battery. Do you know anyone with the same laptop that you can try their battery in yours, and your battery in theirs? Even a similar laptop that takes the same battery will do.

Yes I understand that 3 years would probably mean a new battery.
My hesitation for buying a new battery is because:
1) HWMonitor says that the battery isn’t worn out significantly.
2) Maybe I need a new adapter instead if the battery is not worn out.
3) Maybe its a motherboard issue.
My main question is, are HWMonitor’s indications reliable?
