Could someone please explain to me the difference between a ‘BD rip’ and a ‘BR rip’ in the Movies section, as I am sure I am not alone in requiring a standard DVD programe but the majority seems to be either BR or BD,

They just mean it’s from a Bluray source. A BDrip is directly from a Bluray, whereas a BRrip is sourced from a BDrip. If you are worried you won’t be able to watch them, then there’s no need to. You can watch these just like a dvdrip. But some are best to watch on computer or a media player that plays resolutions above 576p, as that’s highest resolution a dvd can handle.
But they should usually be better quality than a dvdrip.
