Setup.exe stopped working (Windows Vista/7)
August 4th, 2016
I am on Win7 (also this problem is on Vista) ,and when i am trying to install from my External Hard Disk a game when i click on “setup.exe” a window appears saying “setup.exe stopped working” .
I tryed disabling all the services from and startup programs from Msconfig. But same thing
Also tryed to “Right click–> Properities–> Compatibility–> Run this program in compatibility mode for… and tryed to disable the visual themes and etc. But the same thing again
From about the 200 games only the 10-15 are working. I don’t know why but they are from all kinds. Like Crysis,Prototype,Pop,Spore and etc.I am not showing up i just want to say that the games are not from MAME century!

(also the problem exists and for programs saved from another PC/Usb drive/or older windows versions.)
I searched on google but i found only the ways that they didn’t work.
You are my last hope!!! Thnx for farther help.
i am still on xp , idk much about vista or 7 but , did you try to “run it as administrator” ?
i usually encounter that problem when running a portable app for xp and vista in win7 so try having a version of your installer compatible for win 7
also try running the app under compatibility options and select vista or xp
That is most likely a registry error IMO.you can try a program called regcleaner to see if you have those problems.
you should download the ‘setup.exe’ again and run it.it will run then.
this applies to your other games etc too.Download their exes again and they’ll work.
Ive had those sort of problems before, usually with the newer type games, like the new Medal Of Honor, using the autorun.exe it says that i need 32 or 64bit OS
Other problems like urs, u could try running that crysis.exe i see there, if that doesnt work, try extracting that setup.exe and place those files in that folder, that sometimes works.
you need the latest version of install shield wizard.
Try running the EXE as an administrator. If that doesn’t work, download the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6
http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=24DA89E9-B581-47B0-B45E-492DD6DA2971&displaylang=en
and try running the EXE under one of it’s many compatibility settings.
