need help with num lock on compaq mini cq10-500ea.
July 26th, 2016
I have had a look on Google but haven’t got any where. my keyboard is messed up. I can type “jump” and “qwerty” fine but when I use the delete/backspace, it opens a window.
when I type “pop” it shows up as “pqp”
any help? I have had a look on the keyboard and I can’t see a “num lock” button/key.
ugh, TIA.
PS: it’s not a windows problem, I done a fresh install of windows 7 home premium and it was the same. now it’s running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Any chance something is under the keys eg. tobacco ash, try giving it a blast with canned air or your mouth.
You may need to remove it to give it a good shake.

there’s nothing under there.
every time I press the “wifi” on button, the caps lock key turns on. I have looked in the bios and disabled the fn keys but still the same.
omg!
qwerty and jump spells fine. 1 to 7 works too.
if I press anything else, it shows different to what I pressed.
what am I doing wrong?????
I dunno if this helps ……………

yeah I had a look at that and it says press the fn and num lock but there isn’t a num lock on this keyboard. thanks though.
Occasionally when typing on the keyboard, numbers and symbols replace the letters. This typically occurs when the Num Lock key is pressed, switching the keyboard to the mode in which it doubles as a number pad.
You can manually test which mode the keyboard is set to and change its configuration by following the steps below.
Open a word processing program and type the word jump on the keyboard.
If the word displays as jump , then the keyboard is set to its default mode. If the word displays as 140* , then the keyboard has been set to a number pad configuration.
To switch modes, press the Num Lock key (on some models, you may have to press Fn + Num Lock ).
Type jump again to confirm that the keyboard configuration has been reset.
The configuration of the keyboard has been successfully reset.
I have tried and I can type qwerty and jump fine!
what’s the chance of the keyboard being broke??
update 1:
this is strange. I pressed the fn key and pressed all the f keys near the top of the keyboard and it’s working BUT when I press o it shows as a capital O. also whem pressing the backspace, it doesn’t work unless you keep pressing it.
erm?
update 2:
the keyboard is now working. but the wifi switch on the keyboard will not turn on. every time I press a key on the keyboard, the red light comes on and when I let go of the key, it goes off.
oops!
update 3:
back to square one, ugh. wifi is not working now along side the keyboard. if I press the wifi switch to on, it turns on caps lock!!!!!!!! help?
update 4: the keyboard is knackered. I have tried everything and it will not work. sigh. oh well, my dad is going to sell it at a car boot. such a shame, it’s a nice little netbook. oh well.
thanks.
