Need help with recording TV shows.

August 18th, 2013

I’m at college and I’m living in the dorms. There is a coaxial cable jack in the wall that if I plug my coaxial cable from the jack to my TV I get 115 or so channels from Comcast. Now when I plug my coaxial cable into my TV tuner that’s plugged into my laptop I don’t receive any channels. Is there a way to start receiving these channels in WMC so I can start recording some of my favorite programs?
Answer #1
Have you tried scanning the channels in WMC?
Answer #2
Yes I have. It see’s the tuner in WMC, but it always results in No Channels found. I’ve only scanned it 3 times though.
Answer #3
Look, the procedure varies for every TV Tuner Card but you need to switch to the Cable mode after starting the software that came with your card. My TV Tuner has 3 modes. Yours might have a completely different setup, hence you need to consult the manual or fiddle around a bit with your remote control. After that you need to scan through the various frequencies available to get the channels.
Also the TV Tuner Card must be attached to your PCI/PCI-E slot to record shows. External TV Tuner Cards can’t record unless they come with their own internal HDDs.

Well that answered that question. I have a KWorld ATSC TV Stick UB435-Q USB 2.0 Interface. I’m guessing that wouldn’t be able to record anything now would it.
