Answer #1
Does your Motherboard and Processor support ACHI?
Answer #2
yep it does

TyH replied: switching ide to achi in bios cause BSOD on boot.(when reinstalling windows set to achi cause BSOD too )
Of course it does, AHCI mode requires you to install a special SATA controller driver, Which you need to integrate to your XP CD via N-LITE!
This driver can be obtained from your Computer/Motherboard manufacturer site. If you wanna keep your XP as-is without a full blown
reinstall, Do a repair as described here:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Papichoolo replied: Does your Motherboard and Processor support ACHI?
It does^, And the processor has nothing to do with it.
Edit: Is there a particular reason you wanna switch to AHCI?
Answer #4
If you have a floppy drive you can also install the drivers from that after the PC has booted from the Install CD and it asks you to press F5 (I think).

Not many ppl have those anymore, Plus finding diskettes in stores will be quite a chore! It’s F6 btw.
Answer #6
Edit: Is there a particular reason you wanna switch to AHCI?AHCI is infinitely better than IDE. Who the ~censored~ uses IDE anyway?
Disregard everything you’ve read so far in this thread
Here’s what you need to do
1) Download and install your AHCI drivers. Find them yourself
2) Run > regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\services\msahci
Set the start value to 3 (current is probably 0)
Optional: set the pciide’s start value to 0
3) Reboot and immediately change to AHCI in the BIOS
4) Job done.

-paroxysM^ replied: AHCI is infinitely better than IDE. Who the ~censored~ uses IDE anyway?
LOL. Lots of ppl use it and that’s because there’s not much of a difference other than hot-plug support (useful
if you have ESATA+Ext HDD that supports it) It’s also easier to reinstall the OS in IDE mode as no special drivers are required.
-paroxysM^ replied: 3) Reboot and immediately change to IDE in the BIOS
Somehow I think you got this one wrong.

Try using a fast drive or SSD with IDE.

IDE has a throughput limit that has been reached years ago.
Somehow I think you got this one wrong.Whoops

regedit doesnt have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\services\msahci , AHCI drivers unable to install… it says system requirement not met

-paroxysM^ replied:

Point taken, But SSDs are not mainstream yet due to high cost (Plus the OP didn’t even mention having one)
For standard mechnical HDDs, AHCI doesn’t make a difference.
TyH replied:

Just do a repair install (after integrating em with n-lite) and save yourself the headache.
A driver can only be installed when the hardware is connected, It can’t find that hardware (as it’s not set to AHCI mode)
and if you do set it to AHCI mode, It’d bsod! So I think a repair install would be your best bet.
Answer #11
no hardware found even mode is ahci
Answer #12
What’s your computer/motherboard model?
Answer #13
Why a repair install? If you’ve switched to AHCI in the BIOS and it BSODs on you because you didn’t install the driver, you simply disable AHCI again, boot to Windows, install the driver, reboot. AFAIK changing the registry setting manually just relieves you of another reboot, because once you reboot with AHCI enabled Windows will say that the hardware has changed and that it needs a reboot.
TyH replied: no hardware found even mode is ahci
So you set it to AHCI in the BIOS?
“No hardware found” – where do you get that error? What are you doing?

Answer #16
system does not met requirement when trying to install

Download this tool:

Run & Provide the output, It’d list the hardware ids.
Answer #18
agree with Roberto400 on this one
AHCI is not faster than IDE for normal drives
but if you want to use it get a copy of XP with the the AHCI drivers already intergrated

Answer #20
For XP your best solution is to download a CD with the SATA drivers included (or make one yourself) and format and do a clean install.
Answer #21
Squirrelman replied: (or make one yourself) and format and do a clean install.
Good idea, But a repair install would do, No need to make a clean install for this minor issue.
Get driverpacks base:
http://driverpacks.net/applications/driverpacks-base/10.06
+ SATA driver pack:
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/windows/xp/x86/mass-storage/12.01
Do note that you need to use utorrent in order to download it!
Follow this guide:
http://driverpacks.net/docs/beginners-guide-windows-xp
Then just use N-LITE (pick Bootable ISO) and change the mode to Direct burn, When done, Restart, Enter BIOS
and enable ACHI mode+Set the boot order accordingly then do a repair install as described here:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Your data/installed apps will remain intact, You’ll have to reinstall windows updates tho.
Good luck!
Answer #22
Yes that should work. BUT it might not. I ran into a couple of situations where I still just got a bluescreen after the repair install. But try that first.
Answer #23
Thanks Guys !! it is working now!
EDIT :Does AHCI have DMA?
