Advice wanted from phone app developers
January 27th, 2020
1. How tough is it to get an app released on ios and android.
2. the app would need to connect to an external source via wifi or bluetooth
3.how long would it take to create the app so it “talks” to the external source.
4.on the item i want this app to connect to,how would i develop the circuitry on this item…
As you can tell i dont know a lot so be gentle !!
Thanks for your attention
Well in order of your questions:
1. IOS – much harder to get listed than on playstore. Apple doesn’t publish a list of what is required, or what will get rejected. They also will reject an app if they believe that there are enough apps of the “type” or even reject an app if say one of the Apple employees has an app published already (the famous example being the fart app being protected from other competition). Android: not as difficult; in fact people can download and install not having to go through playstore. A good way of getting users to test before going through the listing process. Much more transparent as to the listing criteria .
I always consider “how many IOS users would I get” before development. Remember there are far fewer IOS phone than android.
Windows Phone 8: can’t comment as I have never developed for a platform that has been treading water since it’s release .. and still isn’t gaining much traction.
2. simple enough; you are just using a server /client (assuming you’re somewhat proficient in coding that is)
3. how long .. well it would depend on your related coding experience and exactly what type of “talking” will happen. Could be anything from 20 minutes to a couple of days and then more with tweaking and security etc.
4. If you mean circuitry as in a new hardware device, unless you’re an engineer, a call to a company that designs is your best option. You give them what you need; they will suggest the components, and then you provide the firmware code to make those components sing. A good design company will take you through the process. Once you have the entire package ready to go, then you need to find a manufacturer. I hope your asian language skills are good – or I would make sure to hire a specialist to be the middleman. Time … my experience is as short as 3 months, with the longest almost hitting the 12 month mark.
Obviously, if there is an existing device you can start from all the better. Saying “like this but with these changes” is so much easier than designing from scratch.
Thanks a lot for that mate kinda guessed apple were like that i guess thats why some say there being left behind abit
Thanks again
Not really left behind but it’s a numbers game: IOS devices at uber prices – 600-800 million according to Apple (includes ipads, iphones, iwhatevers). Android devices at various price ranges – lord knows, but just one phone – the samsung S5, is outselling all iphones month by month. Market share – 80% Android / 20% ios. App downloads – 75 andriod / 25 ios.
Now, if you are just an unbiased business person, which market are you going to get your product to first? Maybe if you are selling a premium prestige product with a high price point – Apple. If you looking at your potential bank balance, android.
