How to install win 8.1 x64 through sata 3 controller card?

August 7th, 2016

I want to do this because I will get better speed using pci-e x1 v2.0(5gb/s). My old mobo has sata 2 only(2.5gb/s). The sata3 controller card will come with CD. The note that will come with controller says that I need to install new OS if I want to boot through the controller.
I am assuming that: since the controller comes with a CD, I need to run the CD so that the controller can be recognized or can be seen in the system then I will be able to see the hdd which is behind the controller.
Questions:
1. Can I run the CD even if I don’t have an os installed yet? If not, how can I do it then since the hdd is behind the controller and no driver is installed for the controller yet?
2. Now, I have two things to install, the win 8.1 and the controller driver. This is what I am thinking: Bootable dvd for os installer and bootable usb for controller driver installer. But how do I proceed exactly to accomplish both installations?
Need some advise.

Answer #1
Q1 : No , you cannot run the CD without an OS installed
Q2 : huh ?
solution : insert Win8 DVD , boot up, choose to install Win8 , during the install, windows prompts you to insert a CD for controllers, that is the point where you will input the Raid Controller drivers CD and let Windows during the install install the driver. Once done, the HDDs attached to the controller will become available.
Answer #2
Throw the CD in the bin and install Windows 8.1..
Windows will take care of any drivers needed..
