Format 1 Terabyte HD for a Truck USB Sync Port
August 1st, 2016
I have a 1 Terabyte external HD that I want to format and put MP3/audiobooks on to listen in my truck through the USB sync port.
The drive has to be formatted as FAT32 and I’m able to format the drive as FAT32 but I can’t get it to work, the radio when I select the button to Media all I see is Bluetooth highted. The USB ico is gray out like its not detecting it.
I think that even after formatting the drive as FAT32 there may be a hidden partition that is being created preventing it from being detected in my truck.
is there a way to format this drive to FAT32 that maybe you guys have successfully done this?
Thanks
Better use Partition Tools like Acronis Disk Director that displays all existing partitions..
Delete any partitions and create a new one…Fat32/Primary and active just in case..
What are the specs for your radio?
It may only be able to handle flash drives up to a certain size..
EDIT..
Your unit will probably only recognize a thumb drive up to 32 GB (maybe only smaller)
or just possibly a hard drive partition of 32GB..
Is there anything like a Terabyte fat32 partition?
You can't create a FAT32 partition greater than 32 gigabytes (GB). Also, you can't store a file larger than 4 GB on a FAT32 partition.
Source, a search engine.

Why would you need a usb drive of that size for MP3/audiobooks? Must be a dang long haul for that much.
I'm able to format the drive as FAT32
If you did… you would have a lot of wasted space. Not hidden parts.
I agree with , your radio probably can’t do Terabyte drives unless… It can see it as more than one 32GB part.
Maybe the USB sync port only connects to usb Bluetooth devices.
