Android ROM backup in flashable zip format

August 1st, 2016

hi all gurus,
i have Samsung mobile with JB 4.2.2 and CWM recovery ver 6. when i use CWM backup & restore option, it has an option to create zip file which by default, created in phone sotrage ( as no option to create it anywhere else ), 1) will it be a flashable zip file contain my current ROM completely?
2) is there any other easy way to create this flashable zip file using PC or any other app which allow me to create it on my external SD card ?
please help.
regards.

Easiest is to create from in recovery boot mode.
It will create a fairly big file depending on how much crap is on your device.
You can flash it back.

1) I don’t know, but it would probably be best if you find the custom or original ROM elsewhere and flash it then. 2) You should be able to move it yourself to your external sd card, computer, or wherever, once it is complete. A better site for these questions would be at xda developers.

First thing you need is to boot into your custom recovery. “Samsung Mobile” doesnt say which device, but if you can drop that crappy recovery for TWRP. Most custom roms require TWRP or equivalent (not that CWM). Next, the option your talking about is a “Nandroid Backup”.
1) yes it will be a flashable file but it will more likely be tar.gz and not .zip. It will contain EVERYTHING, the system rom, Aps installed at that time …) so that if/when you should restore that file you’re immediately back to where you left off. Phone Storage will likely use the external SD card, if it doesn’t even more reasons to drop that CWM recovery
2) nandroid backup through pc may be possible. a guick google led to the link below, but it sure isn’t easy. Nandroid backup through custom recovery is a lot easier.
