In case the above model not gonna works then what model should I get? I think my wife mentioned that she going to get gsm sim for Data plan so she could use internet on the go. By the way she doesn’t have internet connect at home. Thanks,
Asia? Where in Asia?
AFAIK ATT is america only. you’re going to need an unlocked iPad Air.
Check if the band are the same. USA may have different requirements so a model may not work. ATT shouldn’t have activity in Asia. If you specify the country we can check if it will work.
If you specify the country we can check if it will work.
Country : Viet Nam City : Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
I misread your post. Having an AT&T branded iPad, you have to unlock it before using it with another carrier. It will work but will need this process.
I went to Costco and asked the sale person there and they said that if I want to use oversea then I have to buy directly from Apple Store…the one with sim card. I’m not sure if this is true, because I did some searching online and said that most Ipad sell in U.S are unlocked but doesn’t mean any sim and have it work. You need to go to carrier first make sure sim activated.
If the iPad is unlocked then you won’t have problems. The best thing you can do is to ask the reseller about the lock status of the iPad…
It seems all IPad Air’s come unlocked. But, that also depends on if you are connecting to a CDMA or a GSM carrier. CDMA carriers store the connect info in the devices firmware and they make you buy the device from themselves. GSM use sim cards which you can change for what you wanna do (on selected carriers). It seems you can do what you have asked about, just dont buy one originally on a CDMA plan, and make sure your wife or you confirm with the carrier that they support the use of tablets on there network, as well as being GSM.
^Nah, carriers like ATT lock iPads to their networks.
It’s the same in the UK too.
I looked and couldnt find the info, but guess ATT are a CDMA carrier not GSM… Hence why the device might be locked.. They didnt make it easy to tell the difference though, so I may be completely wrong..??
You are, yes.
A carrier like ATT or in the UK, EE. will always lock ipads to their network. it’s all about money.
THE only carrier that I know of personally that sell iPads pre-unlocked in the UK is O2.
Good to know and thanks for all your help guys.
Happy Labor Day weekend!!!
att=GSM, verizon/sprint = CDMA here in the states
