I was told by Apple that from iPhone 5 onwards they are not actually locked. This was proved when I had a phone “tied” to Vodafone Es and wanted to switch to Orange Uk. The V shop said do a full reset put new sim in start as new phone worth a go it worked for me and also on a 6 and a 6+
Carriers in Australia let you unlock your phone by calling them on an automated service. I think its a law here that they must allow you. I dont understand how a carrier can lock a 3rd party device.
Your country is the most important thing. There are countries that have laws that let you freely switch carriers(I know you already said it, don’t give me the prize again lol) by only asking it and the rest of countries don’t have this law and you must abide to the vendor’s agreement.
There are other ways that will let you unlock it but the carrier locked is not “healed” with softwares you download. You can only use paid services to do it.
