HDD w/ Windows 7 wont BOOT via SATA to USB
August 7th, 2016
I decided to use a SATA to USB to get into it and get the files… but I never done it this way so I dont know how it even works. I know it had an OS installed so maybe that is conflicting with what I am doing. All I know is that I connected it as the PICTURE below and nothing shows up on my HDD list. Not even in computer management. I do see for a few second a RECOVERY partition but then it goes away.
Please if anyone can help.
Thanks.
If you have a second hard drive plug them both in and boot windows from the working one. Windows should be able to then detect the broken one, and let you recover the files.
It could also possibly be a power problem.
Edit: After re reading your post and looking properly at the pic, I guess thats what you have done with the usb thingy, I thought u ment you where trying to put the pics on the USB plugged next to it and had it plugged in normally and where booting from it…. I havnt used one of them before, but I would try plugging it in to a spare proper sata port if you have one spare, and that may make the difference..
From what i read, i understand that you have 2 computers.
You took the HD from 1st computer[that wont boot] and connected it to second computer using SATA to USB for recovery. And the HD is not working[reading] !?
I think the USB is not providing enough power through the front port. Try connecting in the back pa (directly into motherboard!).
If its not working then plug the HD into 1st computer itself and boot via USB (Sergei Strelec 2015) and recover the datas.

As mentioned, try plugging your suspect hard drive directly into a motherboard sata port of a good PC.
The PC should boot up normally on it’s own drive and your suspect drive should be recognized, as an extra drive, and able to be accessed if it is not broken.
If you don’t have an extra PC, then your PC, if it is OK, should be able to be booted directly from a live version of Windows
as in the Sergei Strelec 2015.
Hello all. I have tried that Sergei Strelec, but it says I don’t have the right windows when I boot from USB? This is a Windows 7. As i saw the documents, this Sergei Strelec might be only for Windows 8? Please correct me if I am wring.
Thanks.
PS. All i want to do is get the pictures out of this HDD. I don’t care about it at all, I just need the pictures. Please if there is any way to get the pictures that is all I want to do…. Then I will BURN the damn HDD.
Thanks again.
