how do i install windows

hey guys I have bought a broken laptop to play with or at least learn from, its an acer and the hdd has fail, so i have istalled a new hdd but dont really know what to do next, i have downloaded a windows 7 file from here and have dropped that on a usb drive but when i try to boot from the usb it says boot files are missing and a recent hardware change to the pc is caused window snot to boot now im really stuck please can someone guide me through what i need to do including a good win7 link i can download again and try many thanks gary

Start with going into the bios on startup, and check the boot order. Make sure its set to usb first so it loads the files of your usb and not trying of the hard drive or something. I presume it is trying to boot off the HDD and therefore not able to find the files.

Have you used a suitable app to put the Windows ISO (must be an ISO, not a bunch of files)
onto you USB stick ?
You can use Rufus or Windows download tool for this..

right lads thanks for that so i download that tool and run that tool on this machine which will take me through the process of putting the windows iso file properly onto the usb drive as above yes been into the bios and set boot order to usb hdd first when i do this it trys to boot but says files are missing is this because i just dropped the iso file i had onto the hdd and expected it too boot from it bare with me lads its all new apriciate the help

Right guys, just to let you know i have created a bootable usb drive that seems to boot on the laptop but as of yet its new HDD has not arrived so im sitting waiting for that, will keep youi allposted as to how i get on cheers

hi guys have widows installed now but have no network adaptor so have no wifi or ethernet working the box in the device manager is empty tried installing an intel chipset but it either says not compatable or system requirments not me can anyone help
