Cannot rewind or fast forward on some MKV files
June 11th, 2014
Amazingly there’s no post in our forum about this problem.
Google reveals that this is not an uncommon problem, but couldn’t find a solution without transcoding the MKV to avi or DVD. I don’t want to do that because of the quality loss.
I’ve used mkvmerge to remux the file, but no luck.
Any ideas to fix this?
Thanks
I was going to suggest the same (remuxing) because sometimes the damaged index can be the cause and remuxing would re-write the index.
BTW, Did you extract anything before remuxing or remuxed the movie directly?
What was the MKVtoolnix version of the movie?
What is the MKVtoolnix version of the one you have done?
Also check my Guide in my signature and see if helps
If you open in VLC player then seek to end and it instead seek to some other position, that means file is corrupted.
Erosman:
I’ve tried both ways. Without extracting anything and extracting the subtitles.
The movie version of MKVtoolnix is 4.4.0
I’m using version 4.0.0 of MKVtoolnix.
Power_plus:
It works right in VLC
By the way, the movie is Black Swan (2010) BluRay.810p.DTS.x264-PRoDJi
@rupha
Does the size of the file relate to whether it scans or not?
Are you burning the movie to DVD or play it via USB?
@erosman
I’ve tried both, burning to dvd and playing via USB, exact same results.
Sorry, I don’t understand the first question about the file size
I meant for example, it scans small file sizes but can not scan large file sizes
You said it scans some but not others.
What is the difference between the files (compare with MediaInfo) that it can scan and those that it can not?
It scans both, big and small sizes, except for a few ones. I’ll check the differences in Mediainfo.
Right now I’m muxing with version 3.4 of MKVtoolnix. Ill let you know the results
Version MKVtoolnix 3.4 fixes the problem.
Thank you for your time and interest.
Thank you rupha for letting us know.
I have added it to my Guide
