is that echo gorge ? if so
there is no way to return to Echo Gorge. If you think back to that point in the begining of the game you traversed The Broken Stair and encountered your first beholders gate (my name for the blue fields with an eye on them. not sure if they have an official name) upon opening the gate you start to climb the stairs to the roof but the cutscene has you steal a griffin so you never actually make it to the roof. Now you need to go through there again and this time actually make it onto the roof. The shard is out in the open so it can't take you long to find
