Stopping the use of an IP on my router

You need to set your self up with a static IP out side of the DHCP range. For example if your DHCP is set to use 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.100 you could give your self a static IP thats below 192.168.1.50 or above 192.168.1.100.
Your router only hands out address from the DHCP range, so you need to choose an IP out of that range, and it wont be stolen.
