Found Iphone 4; itunes doesnt recognize it

November 18th, 2013

hey,
a while ago i found an iphone 4 and decided to keep it. please spare me the moral rant…
anyway, its locked with a passcode and as far as i know i would have to restore it in DFU mode.
problem is that it doesnt even show up in itunes, and i tried several PCs already. cant be the cable tho, because it charges.
what should i do or try next? could it be due to a locked sim card? but then again, itunes does not even show any error message at all.
is there any other tool to interact with an iphone besides itunes?
any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

I would like to help you… BUT… you said that you found iPhone so I won’t!
Give it back to the real owner!
Shame on you!

Even if you restore it, chances are that the IMEI is blocked and so it won’t work anyway.
Answer #3
providers down here dont block the IMEI.
@wo_0t: the reason why i decided to keep it is because it belongs to someone associated to a criminal organization. how do i know that? the background screen indicates it
a person who earns their living with selling drugs and beating up people does not deserve any compassion or sympathy in my book

This is also probably a lie…. but…
1. Download iReb
2. Download TinyUmbrella
First run TinyUmbrella and after it detects iPhone click on SAVE SHSH and see if you have saved any SHSH (if there are any PM me with screenshot) and then I will be able to help you..
If there are NO SHSH Blobs… then…
1. Download 5.0 IPSW for iPhone 4
2. Using iREB go in DFU mode
3. Open iTunes and do SHIFT + Restore
4. ADD 5.0 IPSW and restore will start
5. After this if iPhone is SIM FREE iTunes will automatically activate it if not you will need to perform hacktivation with redsn0w!
Anyway, PM with details and we will see what we can do about it..
(BTW, you can restore it even if there is passcode, just follow my instructions!)
Cheers

Well like I said, I know a thing or two about Apple devices… but thanx for good words

Cheers mate
Answer #7
@wo_Ot?: thanks for the guide, but unfortunately it didnt help.
the problem is that neither itunes nor windows device manager recognizes it.
i already went through all the troubleshooting advices from apple.
(switch applemobileservice on/off, reinstall itunes, try as image device and so on…)
i tried this at 3 different PCs, one of them was even a mac. it just doesnt show up anywhere at all,
but charges when connected to an usb port and vibrates twice…
what could be the reason for that?
Answer #8
Charging doesn’t necessarily mean the cable is fine!! If you tried 3 different pc’s with the same cable i think you should try a different cable!! Does windows recognize that a usb device is being connected to it? IF not then there’s your problem
Answer #9
Look, give me the phone, and I will not judge you. Period.

Plug it in to wall-charger and do HARD RESET (hold POWER and HOME button together for 10 seconds and it will restart iPhone)…
BTW, it must work, it’s problem in you, not with iPhone!
Answer #11
So this is another stolen iPhone ?
Answer #12
that whole criminal organisation thing sounds a bit whack.
I reckon you must have been smoking some hardcore ~love~ to come up with something like that, anyway.
Besides, if you were so hardcore against the crims, why didn’t you give the phone to the authorities?
it may have been the missing link to some crimes, or a chance to bring them to justice…
and wo_Ot? is helping you destory the evidence… xP haha
Answer #13
Voryzen replied: and wo_Ot? is helping you destory the evidence... xP haha
Yes, you know why…..’cuz I’m a criminal….
Answer #14
well i certainly aint hardcore against crime, this as a warez board after all
i suppose it sounds a bit whack, but its not like mafia or anything.
more like an MC with everyone wearing the same cut, but they did have quite negative press the last years. petty stuff tho…
For example, 22 masked members beating up teenagers at a schoolyard with baseballbats and iron bars. the reason behind the attack was that a member felt provoked.
another funny fact: at first i couldnt get the cable in right, so i cleaned it up with a pin. turns out there was weed stuck in there. i wonder how that got there^^
anyway, think what u will…
thanks for all the advices so far, will try it later.
Answer #15
I’d ditch the phone man,
Seriously, get an Android powered phone, you’ll be better off
Answer #16
thanks again for the advices. turns out the cable didnt work, i restored it now like wo_Ot? suggested. couldnt save any blobs tho
the sim card is blocked, so i guess i cant activate it. i dont have a micro-sim either to try whether its sim free.
seeing how i upgraded to IOS 5.0 i suppose im going to have to do a tethered jailbreak in order to hacktivate, right?
