How do I stop auto following people on Twitter?

Don’t click on freaking Follow button!
Click on Report and Block?!
Uhm, by using the “unfollow” button.

I am not following people, they are just randomly showing up on my following list. I do click, unfollow, but more random people are showing up.

That is IMPOSSIBLE! People can follow you unless you make your twitter private, and then you decide will you accept someone or not…
Probably because their message got retweeted by people in your follow list.
You can report these people if they are spambots (one their profile, it’s on one of the drop down menus IIRC). Otherwise, you can only make your tweets private as wooty mentioned (in account preferences).

There is an option in Twitter that you can tick to “not show re-tweets from people you follow”.
If you have looked through all the options, you would have seen it. I suggest you look for it.
