Need help about a cpu

September 24th, 2013

Hi all how are you doing?
I need to buy a new computer ( case ) but I don’t want it to be too expensive. My current processor is AMD Athlon 7750 Dual core 2.7.
It is really a great cpu, it works very good especially in the heaviest and newest games and it was not expensive. I just need to upgrade my computer before it becomes too old.
I heard that the Intel® Core™ i3-2100 3.1GHz Processor is very good.
As I am convinced by AMD processors, I want to know what is equal to the i3 in AMD < performance-wise >
And I want to know which company is better nowadays, still AMD or Intel improved themselves and dominated over AMD?
I remember when I bought my processor, though it was cheaper than another brand in intel but it was the same performance.
Thanks in advance

Answer #1
closest to the current I3 would be the Phenom II X6 1090T for gaming anyway.
intel is better because AMD have stopped now.
Answer #2
I have the Intel Core i3-2120 on one of my computers. It’s pretty fast and stable. I have always preferred Intel over AMD.
My main system has the Intel Core i5-2320
Answer #3
Test your CPU on some otehr motherboard, some 77xx series unlock cores.
Also, which is your mainboard? if you have a good motherboard it may be better to expend a little on CPU than expend a bit more on CPU + Motherboard.
Answer #4
Thank you guys for your replies.
The Phenom II X6 1090T is way more expensive. The Intel core i3 2100 is the same price of Phenom II X4 955.
So do you think the Intel i3 is better than the Phenom II X4? I care about gaming in first place.
And about my mainboard, I have to upgrade it as well because it is an older one GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2.

Second Gen Intel i series have the best performance so far. I have i5-2410M processor which has a very good performance. For me intel>AMD.
Answer #6
Can’t go wrong with a FX-4100 if your on a budget.
Answer #7
Oh, quite small mobo.
I think it won’t handle a 955, if i’m not mistaken it will not handle CPUs over 95W.
Answer #8
Indeed that’s why I am going to change my motherboard as well.
Thank you guys for your replies I kindly like the AMD FX-4100 … but in case I couldn’t buy it, I just want to know what is similar to the i3 in AMD?? And what do you think about the i3 in gaming?
Answer #9
The i3 2100 easily outperforms the FX-4100
The FX-4100 may be rated as a quad core, but acts more like a dual core as each module have two cores coupled.
Also get a Z68 motherboard when you get an Intel processors as you get upgrade to a Ivybridge core when it comes out.
If AMD keeps progressing at the rate that it is, it won’t be long that Intel will be the only ones supplying cpus.
Answer #10
Intel® Core™ i3-2100 3.1GHz Processor it is very good mate..
Answer #11
If you want that extra boost. Get the Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz
Answer #12
I recommend you get the i5 2400, it is a better choice than the 2100. It performs close to the i5 2500, which you know is very good for gaming.

Currently buying the AMD processors would be stupidity, don’t be confused by the specs. See the benches first.
Answer #13
Thank you guys I didn’t know that AMD is falling down.
I guess I am going to buy the the i3 or i5 and I will buy for them the Z68 motherboard as Solyendo said.

I found lots of Z68 motherboard with cheap and expensive prices.
Which one are you talking about? Or any of them can make me upgrade to Ivvbridge?

All Z68 boards should support ivybridge unless there was some manufacturing defect. They vary in prices as some offer more features than others (ie. pcie x16 slots, usb 3.0, better overclockablity, etc…)
What happened to that AMD extremist anyway?
Answer #17
GUYS what do you think about the AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 3.2GHz ??
I found that it is higher than the i3 in many fields and i3 is higher as well in other things.
Which one is better for gaming?
Answer #18
Intel Core i3
Answer #19
You can’t upgrade an existing board to Ivybridge , you would have to buy a new board..(unless something was already on board)
If you were thinking of AMD then you can check out the Bulldozer range here..

You can't upgrade an existing board to Ivybridge , you would have to buy a new board..(unless something was already on board) All P67 and Z68 (B3) boards are compatible with Ivy Bridge except a select few.

I read many bad reviews about the bulldozer and that i3 is better than it.
What about the Phenom™ II X4 955 3.2GHz ?

The bulldozer is AMD’s newest and fastest 8 core processor on the market. I hope it is faster than Intel’s dual-core i3.
If you want a processor faster than virtually all AMD processors for only $200 bucks, get the i5-2500K.
AMD is crap, stay away from it if you want a quality product…

It’s decent for the price range but only if you need the quad cores.
For just gaming it’s better to go with the i3s.

I see that you all recommend the i3 2100 over the Phenom™ II X4 955 though the phenom is quad core and 6 MB cash memory and they are both the same price < nearly >
Thanks guys I guess I am going to buy the i3.
