How to download and play 3D movies on my 3DTV?
September 18th, 2013
Is there any way for me to download a 3D film and play it on my TV?
depends on the TV display method and your connection really.
is it an active (heavy shutter glasses (need to be charged)) or passive (the cinema variety(no charging)) model ?
is it connected to a PC or does the TV have USB ports ?
for active 3D: just search the forum for 3D movies that use “sidebyside” or “SBS” (look at the screenshots, it will look like the same image is shown twice next to eachother) “overunder” should work as well (check manual if your TV supports that method) “OU” is used far less though
if your pc is connected to the TV, just play the movie from there (every media player can play SBS movies, so mpc works great), hit up the 3D mode on your TV and you’re good to go.
what you need to keep in mind though: most TV’s limit the formats, for example LG TV’s require a min. resolution of 720p for 3D playback (you can bypass this if running the vid from PC, by simply having your PC set to a native res. of 1080, and fullscreen zoom the video file) but if you run it via USB stick or external HDD plugged directly into to TV, make sure the format fits !! (see your TV’s manual).
can’t tell you much about passive, as I only have an active one, so someone else gotta fill you in there (odds are you have an active one though)
additionally its prolly worth mentioning, that you might wanna hit up 3D drivers if you have a PC connected to it (that can render fullHD games in high quality) as 3D drivers make gaming quite entertaining. (for example, a decent PC should easily run Portal 2 in 3D at max settings with an avg. of 100 FPS) and P2 looks great in 3D, due to the “slow” movement, the 3D viewing doesn’t hurt much either.

Thanks Spammster very helpful response.
I’m about to buy a passive 3D TV (42″ Vizio LCD 1080p 120Hz).
From what I have read you have to have a certain gfx card to even output 3D to your TV.
Not sure if this is 100% true but my desktop PC is running a Geforce 9600.
If anyone could shed some more light on this topic that would be great.

what type of gfx card do you have?
There are a few media players which can play 3D videos using the new Realtek chipset 1186. Players include HiMedia 900B, iconBIT XDS 1003D, Egreat R300 and others linked
