Banned USB Flash Drive? Is downloading at the library risky?

Ok so I started downloading tons of crap at my library at school. Yes I am a hard core downloader and a nerd too . I logged off and logged back in at lunch to download some more when MY USB DIDNT SHOW. It showed on other computers with different id’s that you log in with. Now I am wondering how do I unban it. They monitor everything that students do on their computers.
Do i rename it? Should I stop downloading at the library?
If I get caught downloading at the library will they tell the police on me?

However you probably should stop downloading at the library. Yes they will tell the cops. I’m not sure how a usb drive got banned, perhaps they’ve taken that ability from your account? (i’m not sure if that’s possible).

It got banned by my id number. For example one students ID might be
18235353 (which works with the flash drive)
and another one is 1852939593 (this is mine and it doesn’t work)
I think they banned the specific flash drive from my ID number. Because I was using another flash drive.

flash drives dont have identity(or do they?) perhaps they cut down ur account’s privileges

I have not heard of anything like this before. Anyway, they can easily disable the usage of flash drives on any computer they want using some policies in Windows.

i dont think thety will get the police but they might tell your teachers. Dont have too much on your usb stick at the one time. And if you do get caught say its an album you already own ir converted to mp3 yourself

they probably set a limit on the size of external usb devices the computer can recognize and show

format your usb and rename it…. its worth a shot, but i would stop downloading at the library.

I have never heard of “USB stick banning” unless they use some very special software that does that.
Here’s what I suspect:
The computer probably has network drive mapped to the first drive letter after the physsical drives, when you connect your USB, it tries to put it on the same drive letter, but the network drive is kept, but with no error messages. You would hacve to get to Administrative Tools, Computer Managemenet, Disk Management and change the drive letter of your USB stick.

You are able to disable external devices in active directory. So yes it is possible for the admins to easily so this.
But don’t be stupid! Don’t use your own account, they have easy access to see what you have downloaded/accessed.

AD = Active Directory. It’s the domain use in big networks, where you login to a workstation using a domain account instead of local accounts
