Installing GTX 580 Help?

August 23rd, 2013

Hey everyone
I have my new GTX580 and am trying to install it, my last GPU was a 9800GT and to install you simply slotted it in. And screwed it in to the slot, but for this card the hole does not aline up correctly so I can’t screw it in? My case is a Cooler Master Haf X if that helps.
Also one thing is I have no mould thing for the back of my mother board, the little thing to keep dust out and goes around the USB slots etc. Is that okay? Wasn’t on my last build so I assumed it should be.
Sorry if some of this doesn’t make much sense, struggling with the worst cold and trying to do something constructive:)

Show a picture. Sounds like you’re doing it wrong.

The Cooler Master Haf X case is pretty big, so you shouldn’t have to much of a trouble fitting that card in…
However, I also have a Cooler Master case (Stacker 931 I think) and I do know how tight these cases can be…. I also had a bit of trouble getting my GTX560 in a few weeks ago. It didn’t look like it was going to line up correctly…. But then after a bit of wiggling it suddenly slotted into place flush with the screw hole.
Be really careful, you don’t want to damage the card or board!!
Just a bit of persistence and patience and you’ll get it in.
P.S. COLDS SUCK!!!

The Stackers are way different compared to the HAF X. You’ll fit cards that are 50% longer than the 580 in the HAF X.

Yeah you’re probably right about that, but the main problem here is the screw hole – not the length of the actual card.
The GTX580 will fit into the HAF X…. but like I said, when I was fitting my card, I also had problems with lining up the screw hole.
Just advised the op what I done, just a bit of patience and careful wriggling and it will be fine.

All in now, it needed some fiddlying and positioning. Such a tight fit. However now my monitor isn’t picking up a picture, and I cannot turn of the Fan LED. Not a huge problem but I do like to have everything finished 100%. I also experienced problems with lack of audio, or audio stuttering before the GPU was fitted in correctly and fear it will still be the same. Anyone feel like helping a noob out
Answer #6
We need more info to help you. We have no idea what you’ve done so far. Pics would help. Oh and if the card is a tight fit then you’re doing something wrong. The card should slide cleanly in without too much trouble and the expansion slots should line up correctly.

Oh it’s all fine getting it in, as Ashley said it just takes a bit of a struggle getting it to line up correctly. No issues actually fitting it in, just finicky getting the screw slots to line up.

This cable tho is a mystery, it’s from the front panel for the LED light but I have no idea where to plug it into.

Man manage those goddamn cables that looks so bad. The fan cable connects to a spare molex or a fan header on the motherboard. The HAF X doesn’t have a separate power LED it’s built onto the 230mm fan on the front.
Answer #9
Will do, fixing the cable management atm, well there is a 2 pin cable and I have no idea where to put it. It comes out of the front panel.
Answer #10
Connect the 2 pin to the front fan. It’ll have a cable to connect that. Btw you can control the LED on the fan via the button on the top.
Answer #11
Alright done, lets hope it shows a picture this time lol.
EDIT: Still no fan light and still no picture… I don’t deserve a 580 with my pc knowledge -.-
Answer #12
Has it worked at all with your current setup?
Answer #13
EDIT: Still no fan light and still no picture... I don't deserve a 580 with my pc knowledge -.-Did the motherboard work before? If so you should RMA the card. Can’t see clearly whether you’ve connected both the 8 and 6 pin connectors but I’m assuming you did.
Answer #14
Okay all good ish now, just finishing up connecting my side and top fan. No audio atm… gonna recheck that it’s plugged in correctly.
