Few questions about microsoft office and updates

September 6th, 2013

ok, first things first…i just had to reinstall windows 7 on my hp laptop, with a legit copy of windows 7 i got from my school… but for some reason i can’t get some security updates. they just keep reinstalling and reinstalling. makes no sense to me.
second…i’m having a hard time installing my copy of microsoft office 2007 which i’ve had installed on here before. (before the reinstall, i had 2010 on there…but those discs were from my old boss…and i can’t get those back haha) anyways, this was the message i got every time i tried to install it. it would get so far…but then it would stop, then roll back the changes.

can anyone fill me in as to what the problem might be? or am i gonna have to try to reinstall again and see if that works?

Here a few suggestions:
Enter – services.msc – to see if Windows Modules Installer service is enabled.
Enter – sfc /scannow – in the run window or cmd prompt to check system files.
Update .NET framework

ok so the windows modules installer was not started, and it was set to manual…so i started it… but should i set that to automatic? i don’t know what that does so i’m afraid to change things. ahha. i’m kind of a wimp.

update: i started the WMI tried to install the updates that i had hidden because they kept reinstalling, but it’s still doing it. at first i got an error saying 2 didn’t install…i went through the help suggestions and it said to do the “fix it” thing…but that still didn’t help. they still won’t stop reinstalling. they’re the same updates, but they keep saying they successfully update every time. and i’m not talkin once or twice, i’ve probably begrudgingly installed those same updates at least two dozen times. it’s pretty jacked up.

Select WMI start-up to manual but just start it for now like you stated you did.
Did you reboot after installation?
Did you run the system file checker : sfc /scannow
Did you install .Net framework?
Try a repair on windows 7?
If all above fails, reinstall the operating system again.
After that; I’m out of options, maybe someone else has a suggestion.

i really appreciate all your help.
when i ran the file checker it came up with the command prompt window that said “this may take a while” but it was over pretty quickly, i rebooted after my initial windows installation…but office can never install so there’s no point to reboot…
installed .net framework, but windows update is still downloading the updated version.
again. i really appreciate your help. thanks!
