ICS problem. Shared connection stops working

September 4th, 2013

I have a laptop and a desktop.
My laptop is connected through WiFi
and I connect it to my desktop through ethernet cable.
I have set up ICS and all and was working fine for long time.
After I did a format I had some difficulties but managed to get it up again and running.
The firewall blocks this connection so I have to disable it each time I want to share
(couldn’t find which connection it was to set to safe, anyway)
Now, my connection stops working all the time to my desktop.
From the time I open it I have about 5-10 minutes of internet connection
and then it stops. Also the two computers don’t connect together for file sharing.
At the laptop connection is fine.
The desktop makes the yelow problem icon but troubleshooting resolves to nothing.
It says: Local Area Connection doesn’t have a valid IP configuration
Tried disabling Bonjour Service but no luck there.
Any ideas guys? Is this issue of IP conflict?
Thanks

Any thoughts? :/
Answer #2
Set the ip manually, pc adapter> 192.168.137.1, 255.255.255.0 (ethernet/shared)
then set the laptop manually> 192.168.137.xxx, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.137.1, dns 192.168.137.1.

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
By doing the above I managed to get my laptop to access the files on the Desktop
and vice versa.
But no internet access for the desktop still.
Also both machines gave a message that they found an IP Conflict.

Found the solution and thought to share… late is better than never I guess
You generally need to stop Bonjour Service from loading which I had done.
But I re-installed my iTunes so got it back up forgetting about it.
Hope someone might find it helpful
