Ubuntu Question
August 4th, 2016
I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.04, and it works great but I have a small question.
I tried to install compiz fusion and it keeps giving me a error, then saying this is not a genuine Ubuntu or some ~love~.
Can anyone help>

If it does not, give info about your graphic card.

I’m not sure about Graphics Cards, as I only have the stock Graphic Card that came with my PC.
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Yea I know that I am insulting Alienware, Ubuntu is something I just wanted to try.
I’m also download Windows Vista Ultimate at the moment, so I’m kinda laggy.
And thanks guys my driver wasn’t up to date, I’m gonna go buy a HD Graphics Card and HD Capture Card any suggestions?

you already have HD card.
and you’re not “insulting” Alienware.
alienware is just a normal PC that you could have built yourself if
you knew how stuck in a fancy case
a PC version of a Mac.

It depends, If you are a big gamer, You should stick with Windows.
If you play few games, you can games in Linux via Wine.
ubuntu is best choice, if you want to try something new. Everything works in it.
What do you mean by your driver isn’t up to date?
Did you check in hardware drivers or not?

Moving.

It isn’t the same self executable run file like you are thinking windows is using. You must use sh to install this file in linux.

To download and install the drivers, follow the steps below: STEP 1: Review the NVIDIA Software License. You will need to accept this license prior to downloading any files.
STEP 2: Download the Driver File
Download - NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14.pkg1.run SuSE users: please read the SuSE NVIDIA Installer HOWTO before downloading the driver. STEP 3: Install Type "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run" to install the driver. NVIDIA now provides a utility to assist you with configuration of your X server configuration file. Please see Chapter 3 of the README or run 'man nvidia-xconfig' for details on usage. Instructions for those wishing to edit their X config file by hand can also be found in the README.
Only one thing wrong with these directions.
In Ubuntu, you will have to type “sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run” to install the drivers.
