What OS to choose?
August 8th, 2016
The following PC needs a new OS:
AMD Athlon XP2600+ (1.9GHZ)
512MB Ram
80GB HDD
Geforce 7600GS
What OS to choose?
BTW: Wlan is used with a “Netgear WG111v2” – so that one has to work, too.
Thank you!
A windows XP 32bit is more suited for a setup like that
Thanks.
I thought about using Linux Mint.
How about that?
Get Tiny Xp latest one If you want to go for Linux then you would have lots of options
You’re better off dropping down to tinyxp or moving to a linux system. what exactly are you trying to do? Just normal surf/download the web?
Customize your own Xp or install linux.
windows XP
It is an old PC of mine and now belongs to my father, who just surfs the web.
So I think Linux will do, won’t it?

If that’s all he does then yes,It’ll also be safer
against viruses so if he doesn’t know how to keep
it secure it’s a plus . LinuxMint is great for beginners,However
people who are used to windows will find YLMF easier to handle due
to the XP look:

Windows XP should be just fine
Windows XP
It should run XP OK, and most software up to around 2006.
If you, or the intended end user wants to be a bit experimental you could put a linux distro on it.
You could also make it dual boot system and have both!

I agree at using YLMF, i have this installed on my #3 computer and its stable, though it does have problems with some windows apps but not many that i have tried, the apps it does come with would be plenty for your father and is just as easy to use as windows
Windows xp
Kubuntu or Ubuntu.
I have a Mobile Athlon XP2500 and I always ran XP Pro fine on it. I have also tried Linux and that ran fine as well so you shouldn’t have any problems with either.
As already mentioned, Linux would do what he needs without the security issues with trojans/viruses that he would be at risk of running winblows.
