HOW DO I Remove/Change the Hardcoded TITLE/NAME of MKV Video

August 6th, 2016

I have downloaded the full season 1 of ‘Orange is the New Black’ from ‘MicroMKV’, and now even after I have changed the name of each file (to “Orange is Black 1×01” for ex.) I still cannot watch them on my phone because when I load all the video files onto my phone (and also when I play them on my vlc player on my laptop, it says in the top of the player) and the name of every video (episode) in my phone just says “www.micromkv.com” and does NOT show the names I typed in and changed them to… I have NO idea why it still shows every file as being that same title? Until I find out how to change or remove this hardcoded title, I cannot distinguish one episode from another… Any help is greatly appreciated!

that appears at the beginning of the file name of all micromkv encodes, they put it 1st
if you’ve removed that then it may be that the file has MP4/MKV metadata (like audio file tags)
goggle “mp4 (or mkv) metadata tag” and see if any of those help

I sure do find it quite vexing when encoders pull something like this.
But thankfully, you can get rid of it quite easily.
1. You’ll need MKVMerge from the below:

I’d personally prefer the portable version (with the 7z extension). Extract the file using 7zip or WinRAR.
2. Open up the extracted folder and run mmg.exe. Head over to File > Header editor as shown below. Image
3. Click File > Open in the header editor and navigate to the video file to open it.
4. Under Segment information > Title, checkmark Remove element as shown. Then, click File > Save and that ought to do it.

Hope this helps. Cheers.
