Was machine sound (start/stop) hack

August 6th, 2016

Hey guys,
I got this option on my washing machine: it makes a ridiculous chinese sound when it finishes washing or you could shut it off and it won’t make a sound… I was wondering what knowledge do you need to hack this sound and change it? Is it a recorded sound or is it a sequence of bits or something?
I have read some stuff in the reviews on DX concernign small chips. Some could be hacked and some not. Just wondering if I’m on the right path.
Thanks for any thought on this matter…

I never worked on a newer machine, but for decades its just been a buzzer. You would have to find another one to fit in its place.

you’re talking about something very complicated. the machine may have a microprocessor with built in rom. so you’d have to get a blank microprocessor, and a rom reader, and a rom burner, and copy the code from the original rom, except for the sounds, which you’d have to customize yourself.. then burn it to the new microprocessor rom.. you have to be very proficient in programming.

This is one of those “if you have to ask how its done, then you are a long long way from being able to do it situations.”
is spot on in response.

Chinese sound…. Thats racist….. Its call chime.
A brand and model would help. I have those new LG one and both of my washer/drier has the option to turn it chime off.

I think it’s possible. I have been reading about expertise on DX.com when I was looking into small electronics. Then I came across home repair tutorials (for example the drum, touch panel, filter, etc…).
Some people wrote the electronics could be rewriteable and some aren’t, with the right knowledgde ofcource. That’s why we have tutorials…
I’m talking about an LG F147W2D, I thought they were the same in terms of electronics, so I was looking for some general terms to kickstart this lil project.
