(Solved)Full Back up Hard disk and data

August 8th, 2016

I want to back up my new computer with win8.1..i have 400 GB used on a 1TB disk…My last computer i had to use about 6 DVD-R(acronis true image) for a win xp comp with hardly anything on it..Is there a way to back up without having to use tons of dvds or partitoning which im not confident in doing ??
Thanks

Using SL DVD’s (I do not trust DL DVD’s for backup), you would need more than 100 DVD blanks. That is more reasonable, but how much is your time worth?
I’d buy another external drive to backup the backup.

Oh! not got time to do 400 dvd ..theres no way to compress a backup onto an external drive if i purchased..or maybe just back up of the OS and not the games and things

Hey,
Can you not install a secondary hard disk drive, or better yet host your operating system on a 120GB SSD and use your 1tb HDD as a storage drive to host all your personal files and backups on ? Personally I host my operating system from a 120GB SSD and use two internal hard disk drives to host my personal files and a synchronized backup. If you split it up like that then imaging your operating system will be faster. I also use boot restore software (Faronic’s Deep Freeze) to enable me to preserve my system environment for much longer without the need to restore from a disk image.
120GB Corsair Force SSD partitioned into two C:/System Files D:/Documents And Settings (Documents are stored temporarily, anything worth keeping I archive on disks below)
2TB Western Digital Caviar Green (Internal)
E:/ Personal Files
2TB Western Digital Caviar Green (Internal)
F:/ Synchronized backup of E:/
2TB Western Digital My Book (External)
I:/ Synchronized backup of F:/
2x2TB Western Digital My Book Live (Nas)
Z:/ Synchronized backup of I
I use Faronics Deep Freeze to protect C:/System Files and only partially protect D:/Document And Settings from viruses, configuration shift and windows rots and use a file synchronization software (Goodsync) to manually sync/backup my personal files to protect from disk drive failures. I use Acronis True Image to create a system restore image of just C:/System Files and D:/Documents And Settings but often my installed software updates with windows updates etc so is time consuming to constantly keep an up to date image which is why I like using Faronics deep freeze and Goodsync

Is there a way to back up without having to use tons of dvd's
Just checking, with Acronis True Image, are you setting your compression at the highest setting to reduce the image size?

Have just been using Acronis and it’s good…I just did things according to the wizard and it turns out that the 50GB on the SSD needed only a 20GB image file that I sent to the hard drive (just where there is room, don’t have to have a separate partition) ….It does incremental backups every week (or whenever you want) in the background, so it’s just easy..
No burning useless DVDs that you will never use..You can wipe the images whenever you like and start afresh

member “share” has a great topic that is up-to-date on Acronis True Image

thanks share for the bootable media
edit: just reporting back. wow, 2014 version is fast. I restored a 47.0GB OS image,
that was compressed to 9.42GB's in one minute 48 seconds. That is damn fast.
Used the Bootable media from topic page.

Here is your high compression setting: (example of a one-time full backup)
