Change zoom on a cheap camera

August 5th, 2016

This is probably a stupid question because I know nothing about cameras I’m trying to find out if there’s a way to change the zoom on this cheap little camera with an ungodly zoom in on it by default. Is there a way I can pop it open and adjust the lens or something? Thanks in advance!
Answer #1
no, you can’t adjust the lens, but if you have the manual for it, you can adjust the zoom in the settings. if you don’t have the manual, then look it up on the manufacturers site, or google
Answer #2
cheap little cameras have very limited Optical Zoom .. when you pass the Optical limits you default to the camera’s max zoom as Digital Zoom which as you say is awful ..
Answer #3
Simply put – NO.
Deeper answer – still no.
Cameras come in three main groups (for zoom)
Fixed lens, digital zoom = crap zoom
Fixed lens, optical zoom = decent zoom until it switches to digital (which some cameras do)
Interchangeable lens, optical zoom (maybe also digital zoom, but less likely with Interchangeable lens cameras) = decent zoom and you can put a different lens on with a different zoom range.
#1 = nothing you can do about it.
#2 = nothing you can do about it.. if the optical zoom is not long enough you need a newer camera with linger zoom (20x to 50x is the norm now in “bridge” cameras (look like reflex camera but is fixed lens)).
#3 = best option; want a bigger zoom, buy a longer zoom lens. you can get 120-400, 150-500, etc, for most of the name brands (or equivalent).

Thanks to everyone! I assumed the answer was no but I thought I’d give it a shot
