Need an EXCEL Pro!

August 11th, 2013

So I downloaded a .xls file from a website. The disclaimer says that
“The purchased professional version are XLS software by Excel 2010. We do not provide unprotected spreadsheet (original software code) or individual software because all software database linked together for full functions. DO NOT UNPROTECT the spreadsheets, otherwise some calculation, at random times, will be inadequate and entire Package database will be changed. The IP address and time which linked our web site will be recorded. ”
Is there anyway I can unprotect this, keep myself secure, and view the guts of this excel file????
for reference:
The .xls file was from engineering-international.c o m and is the second file down (Seismic – 2012IBC)

Answer #1
I was able to just download and view it. No message appeared. I then copied and pasted it to a new spreadsheet and saved it with no issues. Also I have Excel 2010. Just try downloading again on another machine.
Answer #2
What good would copy and pasting do for me? Yes I can view it just fine, but I need to USE the workbook. I don’t need the sample values that are already in there. Oh, and the disclaimer is at the bottom of the website
Answer #3
You can use this macro if you’re on Excel 2007/2010 to remove the passwords entirely (it removes the internal password hash). It keeps the formula intact as well.

Plus, there’s a hidden worksheet in the file, named ‘7’. Go to ‘Format’ > ‘Show hidden sheet’ to view it.
Hope this helps. Cheers, mate.
Answer #4
Thank you sir!!!!
It appears as though whenever I do it, the forumlas are not intact? It simply enables editing. I’m not sure..
Answer #5
Honestly, I’m not sure either as I have no clue about the worksheet and where the formulas ought to be and what they are used for. Probably the original author may have removed some of them so that it comes with reduced functionality if it ever were unlocked.
Answer #6
I think that may be the case, but irregardless thank you very much!!!!!
Answer #7
No problem. Cheers, mate.
